Support your local GP Practice – Have your flu jab with us!

Flu vaccination provides the best protection against an unpredictable virus which infects many people and can cause serious illness and death each year.

We will be holding two full days of Flu Vaccination clinics on:

Monday 22nd October 2018
Wednesday 14th November 2018
@ Birch Lane site.

Please telephone the surgery to make an appointment for either of these days (we will give you a time to attend within a half hour slot). If you are unable to attend on either of these dates, please contact the surgery to make alternative arrangements.

The vaccination is free and recommended yearly for those most at risk from flu. This includes:
• pregnant women
• anyone living with a long term medical condition
• everyone aged 65 and over
• people with caring responsibilities (if there is someone you rely on to care for you, please ask them to contact their own GP Practice as they may be eligible for a free flu vaccination).

Flu vaccinations: Who should have it this winter and why:

This year the practice is offering two different vaccinations for adults, based on the latest guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, who advise the NHS on which immunisations to provide.

We will be offering the Adjuvanted trivalent flu vaccination (aTIV) to all patients aged 65 (on or before 31st March 2019) and over, as this has shown to be the most effective for this age group.

For all patients who are not in this age group, and are eligible, we will be offering the Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccination (QIV) which offers protection from four different strains of flu: Michigan, Singapore, Colorado and Phuket; this is based on the World Health Organisation’s recommendation for the 2018/19 flu season.

If you choose to attend the surgery for your flu jab, you will be vaccinated in a properly equipped consulting room or treatment room by a qualified member of our Nursing or GP Team. You will also be supporting the practice and help to ensure that resources are not removed from General Practice.

If you wish to decline the vaccination, again please contact the surgery and we will update your record.

Flu vaccines for children will be delivered mid-October. We will contact all eligible children once the vaccines have been received.
