Musculoskeletal Team Roles

Musculoskeletal Team Roles Explained

Why do You Have a Musculoskeletal Team in the Surgery?

Patients will get quicker access to diagnosis and treatment for musculoskeletal related problems. This means a patient can:

  • manage their conditions better
  • recover from injury or surgery faster
  • get back to normal life quicker

An MSK helps the GP with their workload and reduces the need for onward referrals to hospitals.

What is a Musculoskeletal (MSK) First Contact Practitioner??

The majority of musculoskeletal first contact practitioners (MSK) are physiotherapists with enhanced skills.

An MSK can help a patient with musculoskeletal issues. Such as back, neck and joint pain.

They can:

  • assess and diagnose musculoskeletal issues
  • give expert advice to patients on how best to manage their conditions
  • refer patients on to specialist services if necessary
