Our First Anniversary – October 2023

Happy Birthday to all our Health Walkers

Dukinfield Park

Our Health Walk started in September 2022 and one year on we have found that we have been getting an average of eight walkers per week.

We met each week with the exception of Christmas week and as well as the regular health walk we have had two trips on the canal boat Community Spirit 2. First we had a short trip from Portland Basin to Hyde and on our second venture we went along the Peak Forest Canal to Marple Aqueduct, and this one took the whole day.

Boat Trip

On the boat we had a sing-a-long with David taking the lead, as well as a game of Bingo and a Quiz, just for fun.

One week we had a walk over to the allotment, off Lodge Lane, to see what is going on there.

Of course, our main focus is the Health Walk each week around Dukinfield Park accompanied by the many tame squirrels to be found there. Along the way, we have a chat and pass on the interesting things that have gone on in our lives from the previous week.

September 2022

DMP Walking Group Take to the Water

Members of our walking group set sail from Portland Basin on Community Spirit 2 on Tuesday afternoon 11th October 2022 heading to Hyde.
With calm waters and the sun shining, we made our way at a leisurely pace along the canal.
We had a fantastic afternoon and we were looked after by the crew who were all volunteers that put in an extra shift just for us.
David, Betty and Dawn all had a go at steering the boat as we all took in the lovely views. We enjoyed refreshments on board and Betty kindly supplied some biscuits for everyone.
If you didn’t manage to join us this time we hope to do it again in the future.
We wish to thank our hosts, the East Manchester Community Boat Project and in particular David and the rest of the crew who gave up their time to make the trip possible.
